Baptism is the beginning and foundation of the whole Christian life. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of Christ. We consciously choose for our children this way of living, of following the ways of our Lord in the Catholic Church. We become members of the Body of Christ, the Church, and are made sharers in her mission.
Infant baptisms are celebrated with the parish community at Mass on designated Sundays during the year. Baptisms outside of Mass are also celebrated at the family’s convenience.
Parents should register for Baptism preparation. These times of preparation are held monthly & at your convenience, and you can register by contacting the Rectory at 201-768-1600.
WHY NOT CONSIDER BAPTISM PREPARATION PRIOR TO THE BIRTH OF YOUR CHILD?
The time after the birth of your son or daughter is a joyful time but it can also be overwhelming. First time parents can especially be overwhelmed: a crying baby, sleep deprivation, and life just changing are enough reasons to consider registering for the time of baptismal preparation during the pregnancy.
Prior to the Baptism of your child, there will be a preparation session with team members of our parish. You will be contacted by Fr. Leo after registering your child for this important sacrament.
The role of godparent is a serious one and being chosen is an honor. Godparents are welcome and encouraged to attend Baptism Preparation. They serve as “Pillars of Faith” for parents in modeling Christian living. At least one godparent must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation and be a practicing Catholic. If the other godparent is a Christian from another tradition, he or she serves as a Christian witness. Church law requires that godparents must be at least 16 years of age.
